Your organization could also become a Federation member by signing up as Service Provider.  As Service Provider, you can integrate your web applications into SIFULAN Malaysian Access Federation and you may use the SIFULAN’s Federated services required for a smooth operation within SIFULAN Malaysian Access Federation.

Typically, a Service Provider operates (SAML) SSO-enabled web resources (Service Providers, SP) and makes them available for the users with an (SAML) SSO-enabled account at one of the participating Home Organizations that operate an Identity Provider (IdP). The (SAML) SSO-enabled web resource can be e-learning platforms, web shops, e-journal databases, etc. which make use of federated authentication and do authorize access to their applications based on the information they got from the Identity Provider of the users home organization.

REQUIREMENT TO BECOME SERVICE PROVIDER

The SIFULAN Federation Policy is the core document where all rights and obligations are listed. However, specific requirement to become a Service Provider has not been concluded yet, but in general, the following entities and organizations may qualify to become Service Provider:

  • Higher education, research organizations, content providers (both domestic and international) wishing to offer (SAML) SSO-enabled resources to one or more Federation Members; and
  • Entities and organizations wishing to offer (SAML) SSO-enabled education, and research-related services to the users, i.e. the registered members of one or more Home Organizations.

MEMBERSHIP FEE

SIFULAN Malaysian Access Federation does not charge service providers a participation fee, and there are no recurring costs for participating in SIFULAN Malaysian Access Federation as a service provider.

It is possible that in future we may introduce a one-off joining fee to cover some of the administrative overheads. However, if this were introduced, it would not be applied retrospectively. (Existing service providers at the time of its introduction would be exempt.)

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

In order to technically join the SIFULAN Malaysian Access Federation, it is, of course, necessary to install and configure a Service Provider (SP) middleware. SIFULAN Malaysian Access Federation strongly recommends the use of open source implementation such as Shibboleth or SimpleSAMLphp. For that purpose, SIFULAN Malaysian Access Federation provides installation instructions and How-To manuals.

Where service providers ask SIFULAN Malaysian Access Federation to assist with integration, and where SIFULAN Malaysian Access Federation is able to provide such assistance, we reserve the right to recover additional costs we incur at our prevailing consulting rates. This would be negotiated in advance on a per-case basis.
